My charcoal starter element(for my bending pipe, I'm lazy, I use propane for grilling) does not have amp draw listed on it anywhere. Do you guys think a 10 amp variac will do the job. And, I would like it to be useful if I go to John H's with a blanket later. Thanks, MT |

A 10 amp unit should handle most all of your needs, including bending blanket control. -C |

10A x 115V - 1150 watts - should be fine, my starter is only 500, and can be controlled with a 6 buck dimmer. |

Mike, The blanket I got from John Hall came with a controller. Router speed control, I believe. Works great. I have a variac. Great little item to have in the shop. Would be perfect for a blanket control. I haven't used it for about ten years, but nonetheless, if they're great to have around! |

When I owned an electrical equipment repair business, I had a 3 phase, 480V, 60 amp variac. I had to use a forklift to move it. Al |

Thanks to all- picked one up at a good honest used price. If it works as stated, I'll be in business.MT |
